New DUEMILAOTTO by BOFFI & Piero Lissoni

A new & exciting turn in kitchens is Duemilaotto by Piero Lissoni.

A design that features a return to artisanal values.

Tactile and natural materials juxtaposed with Boffi’s minimal finishes of steel and Corian.

Briefly instore | The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy – Egg Chair | Come visit and see!

hgttg

To celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the publication of the first Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy book, Interior Design company Lost Weekend (of Ireland) has teamed up with writer Eoin Colfer; the author of the latest instalment in the series – Book Six “And Another Thing…”, to design a special edition Egg Chair with Danish Furniture maker Fritz Hansen.

The production has been limited to, you guessed it, 42 individually numbered pieces which are available to order. Each chair comes with a signed copy of the new book and sometime next year clients will have the option to purchase a matching Ottoman.

Currently the chair and the author are on a book tour, see here for details.

The chair will be on display at our 50 Water St location on FRIDAY and SATURDAY, October 30-31st.

Ron Arad – No Discipline at the MoMA NY

An amazing exhibit at the MoMA ended recently, Ron Arad – No Discipline.

www.moma.org

Many one off and some production pieces were on display, all laid out on a large twisting grid designed by the man himself.

Images don’t do justice to the beauty of his pieces. The metal work when seen at the scale it is done is breathtaking and each object begs to be touched (but they were watching me). Each piece was ingenious and expertly crafted, all showcased the brilliant rule breaking designs of Ron Arad.

Cord Chair by MARUNI + NENDO via The Contemporist

maruninendo2

Japanese wood workshop Maruni and highly acclaimed Nendo design have teamed up to create a ultra minimal wood chair. At first glance it is hard to believe that this chair is structurally sound. Great detail has gone into creating this illusion of lightness, hollowed out solid wood pieces are used to slip over the 9mm internal metal frame creating a slim leg with a diameter of only 15mm. Each chair is hand made and takes about a month to produce.

Currently this chair is only a Limited Production.

MOROSO Showroom 2009 by Ron Arad

moroso1

As a bit of a precursor to the next post, I visited the New York showroom of Moroso which were artfully decorated by sculptor/designer Ron Arad. Many original works were on display including the first pieces that he brought to his meeting with Patrizia Moroso. Glossy metallic creations mixed in with the production upholstery pieces in Moroso’s collection made for a rich and colorful showroom.

B&B Italia & MOOOI Soho Showroom 2009

METROPOLITAN Armchair by Jeffrey Bernett – REEL Table by Atelier OI – TUFTY TIME Sectional by Patricia Urquiola

The B&B Italia and Moooi showroom in Soho was a great two level space. It was exactly the kind of styling that I love to see from them. Very subtle with hints of color, they show modern contemporary lines in a very inviting and sophisticated way.

We show a lot of B&B Italia and Maxalto in our showroom but it is always great to see the other combinations that you can do with the product.

My personal favorites were the outdoor REEL coffee and side table wrapped in thick polyurethane rope, and as with the Milan showroom the large Purple Harry Ottoman.

POLTRONA FRAU – New York 2009

POLTRONA FRAU
141 Wooster St.
New York, NY
www.poltronafrau.it

The updates were a little light last week due to a lot of changes going on in our showrooms (which means new products so come on in for a visit).

As promised I will continue to upload my photo’s from New York so everyone can enjoy the different ways that all the lines we represent are shown in their stores.

The Poltrona Frau showroom is located on Wooster St. near a lot of other brands (most within the Charme Group). A beautiful two level space showcasing the latest products and their contract products as well. The showroom was mainly done in subtle creams and browns with lots of accenting pieces.

The representations of color in their showroom, really shows how classic furniture models can be updated to work with any space.

If you would like to see more of their products visit us in store. Remember almost all of our products are available in different sizes, compositions, and materials.

*Stay tuned for more images from New York and next week a special posting on RON ARAD and MOROSO.
