New In Store – 40th Anniversary of the B&B Italia UP Series

Designed in 1969 by artist/architect Gaetano Pesce, the UP Series was developed by C&B Italia (now B&B Italia) to take full advantage of the companies advanced manufacturing technologies.

This was not the first collaboration between the designer and furniture maker, but it was the greatest success with the UP5 and 6 (Woman and Child) instantly claiming its status as an icon. The ability of C&B Italia to transform Pesce’ ideas into such a beautiful product lead to the creation of the rest of the series. A unique collection with a distinct and quirky personality.

One memorable feature of the original UP Series was because of the foam construction they were able to vacuum pack and compress the products by about 90% to ship them flat. Only once the item was opened and came in contact with the air around it did the chair expand to its full form. Due to advances in materials the current versions ship as they are.

Come in to our 97 Water St. location and see the new Silver UP5/6.

In 2000 the UP Series was revamped with the introduction of a striped fabric.

Unbreakable Art: FISH DESIGN & Gaetano Pesce

Who would have thought that the solution to broken vases would be so beautiful, tactile, and colorful! Vases and jewelry made of soft silicon resin, in a variety of raw forms glow as the light travels through them.

Each item is a unique creation, working with the skills of the craftsmen and the power of gravity.

The project was started in 1995 by Italian architect, designer, and artist Gaetano Pesce in pursuit of creating fantastic vases, jewelry, and many other products out of coloured and translucent resin. As a small venture the company continued to make its goods until 1999.

For five years these unique products awaited a rebirth and in 2004 Andrea Corsi an Italian business men focused on design brought the resin products back into production. Working along side Gaetano Pesce, Corsi himself has begun to work and create goods for Fish Design.
