IDSwest 2010

Last Wednesday through Sunday, at the new Vancouver Convention Centre, there was a thrill for the senses. The talented and very organized folks behind Interior Design Show West provided the interior design industry of the West Coast and beyond a chance to show off their latest and greatest. There were countless exhibits, insightful speakers and brilliant designs from well established and emerging creatives.

We exhibited some of what we have to offer in design excellence from around the world. Lines of fluorescent tape ran across our booth and over pieces that led to panels reading the names of those piece’s countries of origin.

Junior Design Addicts

At Inform we believe that design appreciation can start at any age. Many of our clients have been coming to our store for years and years, with this we’ve experienced their changes in style and taste as well as the changes in their family structure with the addition of some amazing children!

Above Verner Panton’s classic chair has be introduced in a children’s size. Durable, stackable, and colourful.

Not all products suitable for children are designed for their use. The CORK stools by Jasper Morrison and VITRA are a great small table for kids and with no hard sharp corners it’s safe too.

Collectors of Alexander Girards dolls can start their kids off with a single piece of their choice.

Knoll has started producing their iconic mid-century pieces in scaled down forms. Now people of all ages can enjoy the comfort of Eero Saarinen’s Womb Chair (suggested use shown above).

When looking at design products for children it is hard to overlook the magnificent pieces by Charles and Ray Eames.

My colleague James knows full well how important it is to introduce design at a young age. What a lucky nephew receiving a Junior Panton Chair from Vitra for his 1st Birthday!

Here are some other great pieces children can enjoy.

Sometime ago, I visited our neighbours at Met Home and Mary was kind enough to let me snap some pictures of her great classics.

Every time I go and visit her showroom I am reminded of why I love furniture so much. These pieces come from all over and are generally those of their era. The store is always changing with new goods but one of my favourite pieces that turned up was a pair of Kids Molar chairs by American Wendell Castle.

With proper love and care you can see how well great quality furniture holds up. Most of the pieces in the following pictures are still in production today and available in our store.

It has been a long time coming but the Herman Miller Eames Dowel Base is finally here!

Originally constructed of fibreglass and one of the most popular chairs of all time, Herman Miller introduced a selection of these chairs in 2001 and increased the selection in 2005 as part of their ‘Get Real’ campaign. The first chairs were designed for the International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture organized by the New York Museum of Modern Art in 1948. Beautifully finished and elegantly formed, these chairs are available in 5 colours.
