Marcel Wanders

Marcel Wanders is originally from Boxtel, Holland and graduated from the School of the Arts Arnhem in 1988. Wanders’ fame started with his Knotted Chair, which he produced for Droog in 1996(image right).

_

He has designed for B&B Italia, Poliform, Moroso, Flos, Boffi, Cappellini, and Moooi, founded in 2000, of which he is also art director and co-owner.

Wanders was a juror for prizes such as the Rotterdam Design Prize (for which his own products were nominated several times) and the Kho Liang Ie prize. He lectured at SFMoMA, Limn, the Design Academy, Nike, IDFA, FutureDesignDays and has taught at various design academies in the Netherlands and abroad.

The same year, together with chef Peter Lute, he developed a concept called Lute Suites, the first “all over city suites” hotel in the world. He has been the interior designer of countless projects including Blits, a new restaurant in Rotterdam and Thor at the Hotel on Rivington in New York.

Many of his designs have been selected for permanent design collections and exhibitions, like the Museum of Modern Art in New York and San Francisco, the V&A Museum in London, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam, the Central Museum in Utrecht, Museum of Decorative Arts Copenhagen.

Today, Wanders continues to thrive and develop as a designer. He recently opened a Moooi showroom in London, displaying the entire collection(images above and below).
