Konstantin Grcic Industrial Design (KGID) was founded in 1991 and currently employs 4 product designers and 1 personal assistant. The office has established its reputation in various fields of design ranging from furniture and industrial products to exhibition design and architecture related work.

In 2001 he was honoured with a compaso d’oro for his incredibly versatile Mayday lamp(image on right), produced by Flos. Mayday can now be seen in the permanent collection at MoMA in New York. In 2007 he was named Designer of the Year by ‘Arckitectur & Whonen’ in Cologne and Designer of the Year at the ‘Maison & Objet’ fair in Paris.

In February of 2010, another of Grcic’s designs was inducted into MoMA, the 360 stool and chair(below) which can be seen at the front desk of our 50 Water Street showroom. Konstantin Grcic was the winner of the Wallpaper* Design Award 2010 in the category “Furniture Designer of the Year”.

In addition to the vast amount of industrial projects he is currently working on, Grcic has been asked by architects Herzog & de Meuron to design the furnishings for the new Parrish Art Museum in Long Island.

Konstantin Grcic defines function in human terms, combining formal strictness with considerable mental acuity. Each of his products is characterized by his careful research into the history of design and architecture and his passion for technology and materials. Known for pared-down pieces, Grcic is often called a minimalist but the designer himself prefers to speak of simplicity.
