Introduced at this years Salone de Mobile the Vitra ‘Chairless’ is referred to as a tool for the modern nomad.

A simple strap uses the tension created by the opening form of the human body to provide the user with a mobile seating support system.

Designed by Chilean architect Alejandro Aravena, the inspiration was taken from supportĀ straps used by the Ayoreo Indians (native to the border region between Paraguay and Bolivia).

Aravena’s designs follow the principle of ‘irreducibility’. His works are reduced to the most utilitarian of forms.
